Feng Shui, an ancient art, created by, during the period of and so on so forth. If you’re here to read about the history of Feng Shui, this writing is not for you. There are plenty of other writings that explain the origins of Feng Shui. Surely the worldwide web doesn’t need yet-another. Go here instead if you’re looking for the history.
What I’m gonna do is to illustrate what I wish had been the first ever piece of Feng Shui article I read.
The stars that glitter in the night, emit energy patterns on to us. I already hear “Doh~~~”. Think of it, the moon effects the tide and the sun gives birth to all life on earth. The moon and the sun are stars, are they not? So what makes you think that the planet Jupiter does not have some sort of impact on earth and the living beings that milk mother earth?
Now, imagine you’re taking a stroll in the middle of the desert when the sun is up above you baking your brains silly. Don’t think it’ll be a comfortable stroll.
Now, portal yourself to another part of earth, where there are mountains with lush greenery, streams leading to a lake. Assume that earth had made its daily rotation and the stars are now in the same positions.
Planetary energy projects onto earth, meeting the mountains, meandering through lush greenery. A force of energy (Qi) whose wrath is tamed, now gently making its way, as if obeying the laws of gravity towards lower ground. Finally finding a resting point at a beautiful lake.
Back to our stick man, even with the sun blaring down on you, the air is fresh, the breeze cool to the skin, a smile on your face. Bingo! You’re about to live an extra 10 years. What a stellar difference when compared to taking a stroll in the desert eh?
Then, there’s the need for a roof over our heads. Our stick man builds a house and lives happily ever after.
I take Feng Shui as an art that understands the various energy patterns of the stars (not all of them of course). An art the enables us to take make use of this freebie. An art, deep enough to manipulate Qi to our advantage. When our surroundings are harmonious, it’s only sensible that we would live comfortably.
